5 Ways to Give Back in East Meadow

Donate blood, knit for charity, help a local temple and more.

Here are five different ways to help a neighbor in East Meadow and give back to your community:

Dennis Carley Donations: The July 28 fundraiser for Dennis Carley, an East Meadow resident critically injured in a motorcycle accident in Delaware earlier this month, raised approximately $4,500 to help pay for his hospital bills. Blood Drive: There will be a blood drive Wednesday, Aug. 28, 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the East Meadow Public Library. Call 794-2570, ext. 560 to make an appointment

Culinary Delights 2013: Tickets are available for Culinary Delights 2013, an East Meadow Chamber of Commerce fundraiser to be held Sept. 30 at Carltun on the Park at Eisenhower. This year's goal is to raise money for the Nassau University Medical Center Pediatric Department, Fight Against Autism, Kiwanis Club of East Meadow Kamp Kiwanis, Juvenile Diabetes and The Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island.

Fro-Yo Fundraiser: Temple Emanu-El of East Meadow will hold a fro-yo fundraiser Sunday, Aug. 4, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at 2018 North Jerusalem Road (CVS shopping center) in Bellmore. Fifteen percent of sales made during the event will benefit the temple.

Donate Books: Although the East Meadow Public Library does not accept book donations, residents can donate unwanted books and magazines tp several institutions:

Knit for Charity: Looking for a way to use your talent to give back? Check out the charity knitting club, "Loving Hands" at the East Meadow Public Library on Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. Supplies are provided and no registrations is required. Participants can make gifts to be donated to local charities and other causes.
