Bowling Green K-Kids, Clarke Builders Club Collect Treats for Troops

East Meadow Walgreens instrumental in the candy drive's success.

In preparation for the upcoming K-Kids/Builders Club mini-convention, the Bowling Green K-Kids and WT Clarke Builders Club collected treats for the troops outside the East Meadow Walgreens.

The K-Kids and Builders welcomed the support of Nassau County Presiding Officer Norma Gonslaves, LISC Kiwanis Lt. Governor Ann Torcivia and Bowling Green Invention Assistant Chris Krauss as well as members of the East MeadowLevittown and Bethpage Kiwanis Clubs.

Walgreens manager Eric Hoover went out of his way to assist the cause. Due to the windy and chilly temperature, he welcomed the kids inside the store. He also created a floor display of non-perishable candy near the store’s entrance and hung "Treats for the Troops" flyers in the candy aisles near the specific items the K-Kids and Builders Clubbers were requesting for the troops. In addition, Mr. Hoover posted the event on the store reader board advertising the event to drivers along Hempstead Turnpike and Newbridge Road.

In recognition of Mr. Hoover’s and Walgreens’ support, Lt. Governor Ann presented the store manager with NYD First Lady Cookie Aiello’s Treats for the Troops pin and her LISC Division pin.

Thanks to the generosity of Walgreens’ shoppers, the K-Kids and Builders Clubbers collected more than three overflowing shopping carts of treats for the troops, including granola bars, Wherther’s Originals, Twizzlers, hard candies, chewing gum, lollipops, mints and Sweetarts.

With other K-Kids and Builders Clubbers attending the mini-convention at WT Clarke on Saturday, Nov. 2, the Bowling Green K-Kids and Clarke Builders Clubbers will pack the candy with messages of gratitude for individual U.S. soldiers serving overseas.

The kids are honored to be completing the First Lady’s project working side by side with Kiwanis Governor Joe Aiello and First Lady Cookie, who will be joining them at their mini-convention.
