Election Signs: Time to Take Them Down

Share your thoughts in our Soapbox - Gov't Matters open blog.

Many people have been upset about the number of signs that have remained up after elections conclude, stating that it is the equivalent of litter.

Now that Election Day is over, what do you think is a reasonable time frame for all the political campaign camps to start cleaning up those yard and pole signs used in the campaign? One week? 48 hours?

We posted the above question on East Meadow Patch's Facebook page and got the following comments:

  • Susan Weiss: Immediately! They are so unsightly.
  • Patrice K. O'Malley Miller: Today would be a good idea.
  • Debbie Brodsky Russo: Should have already been done, especially the ones in front of the school where the kids like to pull them out of the ground and chase each other with those metal skewers...just love them.
  • Fran Hultin-Sineno: Yesterday!
  • Kristina Kelly Hollywood: I think allotting the candidates three days to remove all campaign posters and signs from public spaces is reasonable. However, those that are on front lawns and private properties should be removed within 24 hours, following the election. I find these signs and posters to be a distracting eyesore that litter our community landscape. The sooner we can restore the uncluttered appearance of our neighborhoods, the better.
  • Dean A. Dinolfo: NOW!
