County to Step Up LI Marathon Security in Wake of Boston Bombing

Security will be amped up for the Long Island Marathon amidst Monday's bombing at the Boston Marathon, county officials said.

The Long Island Marathon weekend is scheduled for May 3-5.

County Executive Ed Mangano said that starting Wednesday, his staff will be holding security meetings with the Nassau County Police Department leading up to the race.

"We are closely monitoring [Monday]’s tragic events that took place at the Boston Marathon," Mangano said.

Races begin on May 4 with the marathon, half marathon and 10K taking place on May 5. All races begin on Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Uniondale.

The county executive has asked that residents also take an active role in preventing any type of event similar to that of Boston.

"We ask our residents to remember our See Something Say Something Campaign, if something or someone seems out of place, please call 911," Mangano said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims of those affected by today’s horrific tragedy."
