Cops Identify East Meadow Drowning Victim

The deceased was identified as Gelber Orozco-Velasquez, 26, of Hempstead.

Nassau County Police have identified the man who drowned in an East Meadow pool Tuesday afternoon.

According to cops, the deceased was identified as Gelber Orozco-Velasquez, 26, of Hempstead.

Orozco-Velasques was transported to Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) after police were called to the School Street home at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m.

Police said a 20-year-old man pulled Orozco-Velasquez from the pool and attempted CPR before he was transported to NUMC.

According to Newsdaythe pool he drowned in is eight feet deep. None of the four people that live there were home. A friend, who routinely does things around the house for the family, was over to pull up a rug.

Richard Langone, the attorney for the home's family, told Newsday his client did not expect the man to bring two others, one of whom was the victim.
