Warren Kalmenson Nominated for Small Businessperson of the Year

East Meadow Chamber of Commerce president Dolores Rome nominated him because of his devotion and dedication.

Long time East Meadow resident Warren Kalmenson has been nominated for "Small Businessperson of the Year."

The Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce recognizes local business owners every year at a breakfast held in their honor. East Meadow Chamber of Commerce president Dolores Rome nominated Kalmenson.

"I picked Warren because he has always been involved with the chamber even after his reign as president," Rome said. "He is a dedicated and devoted person."

Kalmenson has lived in town for nearly 40 years. His business, Wellcare Financial Planning Service, Inc., has been located on Hilton Avenue in Hempstead for nearly 30 years.

"I am very honored to represent the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce and East Meadow," he said of the honor.

Kalmenson has been an active chamber member for 25 years. He served as president and was subsequently presented with the Marvin Bernstein Humanitarian award, given to an individual or organization that has shown outstanding service to the East Meadow community and its neighbors during the year.

Kalmenson is also a longtime member of East Meadow Kiwanis, having served as distinguished past president and distinguished past lieutenant governor. Fellow Kiwanis member Ivan Launer said Kalmenson introduced him to an "outstanding organization filled with fine, caring people" when he sponsored his membership.

"He is a likable, down-to-earth person who has enthusiastically lead and participated in countless projects that helped improve the lives of local children and families," Launer said. "His attitude and accomplishments make him a natural choice for Small Business Person of the Year."

Married 42 years, Kalmenson has two children and two grandchildren. During his spare time, he often enjoys reading to elementary school children in East Meadow.

The Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce breakfast is being held this year at Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury Friday, Oct. 18 from 8 to 10 a.m.
