East Meadow Resident Gets Nostalgic

Carla Fernandes opens The Village Vintage, a shop for hipsters, crafters, pickers and everyone in between.

A young entrepreneur from East Meadow has a passion for all things vintage.

Carla Fernandes opened The Village Vintage in Westbury in July. The shop offers an eclectic array of home furnishings - anything from classic and antique furniture and paintings to frames, glassware, china and chandeliers.

"It's been a lifelong dream of mine to do my own thing and this little project has captured it!" she said. "The trend of thrifting and Long Islanders looking to buy smarter and more affordable, especially in today's economy, has increasingly been apparent."

Fernandes, who's lived in East Meadow for 25 years, said the shop provides affordable, quality goods from a nostalgic past.

“I wanted to blend my loves of crafting, organizing, refurbishing, photography and all things creative into one place. And when the opportunity with this shop came up, I jumped at the chance,” she said.

For customer Chris B., every visit to the store is unique.

“When you go to any one of the big box stores, you know what you’re going to get. When you visit this shop, you don’t. It’s much more exciting,” Chris B., a regular customer, said during a recent visit to the shop.

An official ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Westbury-Carle Place Chamber of Commerce is planned for the near future.

The Village Vintage is located at 797 Old Country Rd. in Westbury. Call 506-7700 for more information.
