East Meadow Library to Host Cosplay Party

Japanese singer Hitomi Himekawa and The Rainbow Bubble Dancers will perform at the event on Friday.

The East Meadow Public Library will host a cosplay party and contest on Friday as an introduction to its 3rd Annual EmCon Convention in May.

Patrons can dress as their favorite anime character and compete for a prize for best costume. Japanese singer Hitomi Himekawa and The Rainbow Bubble Dancers will also perform at the event.

Cosplay is short for "costume play," a type of performance art which participants wear costumes and accessories to represent a character or idea.

The EmCon Convention started at the library in 2011. It is the organization's first Anime festival that celebrates one of Japan's most popular culture and art. The festival has a number of cultural activities, including events and workshops that will provide entertainment for people of all ages. More than 1,000 people attend the event each year.

The event will start at 7 p.m. Patrons do not have to wear a costume, but are encouraged.
