I think the rest of the country should follow Nassau Counties pistol regulations for all guns. MyRead More wife and I have both been through the process of getting a pistol permit and also renewing one and it is an experience that will never forget. Your whole life is an open book for the authorities to read. The flaw that I see in the law is that the process to buy a high powered long gun is not as stringent. I am devastated by the events in CT like we all are but will taking the guns off the shelves have prevented it?

Looks like Dick's has now joined my "AIN'T SHOPPING THERE" List. I agree Charles. I wouldRead More have gone a step further. Had Lanza's mother not been killed I would have had her brought up on murder charges for neglecting to rein in that nut of a son. Now a days it is a mental plea as a shortcut to leniency. I believe law abiding non mental cases should own whatever weapon they desire... BUT.. use it illegally and there should be a MINIMUM 7 year, no plea bargain, jail term... this is in addition to whatever the arrest was for.
Charles December 20, 2012 at 01:03 pm
IMO it's the mental state of the person holding the gun that kills someone, not the gun. BanningRead More assault style guns or taking them out of retail outdoor stores will not eliminate or shrink the statistics for tragedies like Newton. The mental state of each individual involved in these horrific acts of mass murder is to blame. Gun laws need to change to protect people and gun owners. Families that have guns in the home should be held responsible for locking guns up and safe guarding them from everyone. Especially someone you know is mentally unstable. Laws do need to change but banning guns is not the solution. Increase the safe guarding laws or the owners lose their right to bear arms!! That's my $.02....
