Parade, Nightmare on Main Street, Blood Drive This Weekend

Some events this weekend you might want to check out.

If you're looking for something else to do this weekend other than relaxing, you've come to the right place.

Bellmore's Annual Halloween Parade and Trick-or-Treating

  • We will assemble at Pettit Avenue at 11:45 a.m.(near the Fire Department). Festivities will commence at noon and the parade of costumed kids and adults will head up Bedford Avenue. 
  • Spooky music will echo down the street as we trick-or-treat. All participating merchants will display “Mr. Pumpkin” in their window. 
  • Come join the fun!
Nightmare on Main Street: The Library Cafe's Annual Halloween Party
  • Library Café hosts Nightmare on Main Street, their annual Halloween party on Saturday, October 26 from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. 
  • A DJ will keep revelers dancing, and shot, beer and drink specials will be available. 
  • A costume contest will award a prize for Best Costume. There will be no cover charge. 
Calhoun On Tour Company Presents "The Winter's Tale"
  • Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Calhoun High School On Tour Company is kicking off its season with William Shakespeare’s "The Winter’s Tale". 
  • Performances will be held on Oct. 25, 26 and 31 (understudy performance), as well as Nov. 1 and 2 in Calhoun High School’s auditorium, All performances are at 7:30 p.m. with the exception of the understudy performance, which will take place at 4 p.m. 
  • Directed by Mr. Sal Salerno, tickets to The Winter’s Tale can be reserved by phone at 516-992-1377. 
Super Community Blood Drive
  • Give blood and join the biggest huddle. 
  • St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #2204 will host a blood drive in the auditorium on Cherry Street. 
  • Every person who donates blood as part of the campaign will receive a red super community blood drive wristband, as well as being entered into a sweepstakes for a pair of tickets to Super Bowl XLVIII.
Trick-or-Treat Freestyle Bash at Mulcahy's
  • Come on down to Mulcahys of Wantagh on Oct. 25 for our fun filled 80's Halloween concert! 
  • Go to www.sshoreentertainment.com to order your tickets! Feel free to email ezon084@aol.com for VIP info. 
  • Concert will take place at Mulcahys of Wantagh. We will have 5 live acts and cash prizes for best costume (costume is optional).
United Methodist Women's Fair
  • UMW Harvest Fair and Pumpkin Sale at the Community United Methodist Church in Massapequa will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  
  • Pumpkins of all sizes, baked goods, costume jewelry, holiday items, handmade gift items and much more. The thrift shop will be having a $5 bag sale:  all you can fit in one bag for only $5!  
  • Coffee and cake available. At noon, there will be an Apple Pie Bake-Off.  For additional information, call the church office at 516-541-7008.
Alex's Run for a Reason
  • Alex's Run For a Reason is a two-mile family fun run/walk to be held at Newbridge Road Park.  
  • In addition to the run/walk - light breakfast refreshments will be served, there will be fun children's activities and an extensive raffle drawing.
  • Alex was an adorable, smart, happy, adventurous 22-month old who brought so much joy to everyone that knew her. She was on the verge of so many new adventures and accomplishments. Tragically, her life was cut way too short.
Old Fashioned Harvest Fair
  • Merrick Methodist Church will hold an "Old Fashioned Harvest Fair"on Saturday, Oct. 26. 
  • Featured are baked goods, pies, jams & pickles, attic treasures, delicious lunch 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., vendors and handmade items. 
Wantagh Little League Registration
  • Join us for our 62nd year, including a new 50/70 program for ages 11-13.
  • In-person registration for the spring 2014 season for ages 4-18 on Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wantagh High School.

Bellmore Ladies Auxiliary Vendors Fair
  • Free admission, light refreshments, raffles and an arts and crafts station for the children.
  • It will be located at the Bellmore Knights of Columbus Hall.
Turkey Dinner
  • Merrick United Methodist church will hold a turkey dinner on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
  • The cost is $13 for adults and $6 for children under 12.

Grand Opening- Mathnasium
  • Mathnasium is a learning center where students go year-round to boost their math skills. 
  • Here, students will find a positive, enthusiastic atmosphere providing the support and encouragement they need. 
  • We are highly specialized; we teach only math. Our program, which spans both reinforcement or enrichment, is designed for students K through 12th. 
Farmingdale FD's Fire Prevention Open House
  • October is fire prevention month, and our local firefighters want to make sure you're prepared in case of an emergency.
  • Please visit The Farmingdale Fire Department on Main Street on Oct. 27. They're hosting their annual Fire Prevention Open House from 12-3 p.m.
  • There will be a live fire demonstration, CPR, and vehicle extraction demonstrations.  NYS State Police will be on hand with its Seat Belt "convincer," which simulates the importance of wearing a seat belt. 
Merrick Jewish Centre's Third Graders to Host Dog Adoption Day
  • Third graders in the Merrick Jewish Centre Hebrew School’s “Bet” class will host a dog adopt-a-thon to help place shelter pets in forever homes.
  • The program, coordinated with the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, is scheduled for Oct. 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Merrick Jewish Centre Parking lot. 
  • The Town Animal Shelter will be bringing dogs that are trained and ready to be adopted. A wide variety of breeds, sizes and ages will be available. All are hoping to go home to become part of a loving family.
