Astronomy Lecture, BOE Meeting This Week

What's on tap this week in East Meadow.

Astronomy Lecture: Learn how to see Comet ISON, expected to reveal its bright tail on Thanksgiving morning; the asteroid 163 Erigone briefly block out light from the star Regulus on March 20; and a total lunar eclipse in April with astronomy teacher Larry Gerstman when he visits the East Meadow Public Library Monday, Nov. 18, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Assemblyman McKevitt's Staff to Visit Library: Staff from NYS Assemblyman Tom McKevitt's office will be at the East Meadow Public Library to address community concerns and questions on Tuesday, Nov. 19, between 1 and 3 p.m.

Dual Lecture: Balloon twister Ryan Lavallee and face painter Ashley Pickin will combine forces Wednesday, Nov. 20, to demonstrate balloon designs and face art at Tricky Business in East Meadow. Tickets are $20. Tricky Business is located at 2590 Hempstead Turnpike. The lecture begins at 7 p.m.

Board of Education Meeting: The East Meadow Board of Education will hold a meeting at the Leon J. Campo Center at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov, 21. Persons wishing to address the Board of Education must complete a blue speaker’s card available on the Board of Education’s secretary’s desk. Generally, each speaker will be given a maximum of three minutes to address the board. Patch reader, Christin, posted to our Speak Out Board, stating she will be speaking in favor of implementing full-day kindergarten in the East Meadow school district.

Miniature Art Show Submissions: The East Meadow Public Library's annual miniature art show and sale will be held in December. The library will begin accepting paintings, jewelry, sculptures and photography beginning Thursday, Nov. 21. Artists may bring three pieces of their work to the PR office Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and on Monday, Nov. 25, between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Items go on sale Monday, Dec. 2.
