She has been fire medic for Rescue Company Five for 17 years.

An East Meadow fire medic was recently honored at the Fireman's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) convention in Alexandria Bay for excellent service.

Phyllis Sperr, a 17-year fire medic for Rescue Company Five in East Meadow, was honored for all of her service within both the Fire Department and the Ladies Auxiliary with the 2011 LAFASNY Member Recognition Award.

"This is a very prestigious award given out to one Ladies Auxiliary Member in the entire State, and we are all very proud of her accomplishment," East Meadow Fire Department Chief Carl Pugliese said. "Phyllis has long been a role model, and an exceptional member in both our Department and Auxiliary, and this Honor was very well deserved."
