Mega 'Mommy' Shows True Love For Community

A closer look at one of the unheralded members of the local community.

Not only is Jen Cardone a medical proofreader and the mother of two young girls, she also provides a big help for local parents.

Cardone and Kristina Hollywood facilitate Mommy's Time Out, an email-based group that keeps moms in the East Meadow area appraised of anything, ranging from the week's best coupons to a bake sale at one of East Meadow's schools.

"The majority of the moms are from East Meadow, but we have moms from many different towns in Nassau County," Cardone said.

Cardone, who also serves as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter's Brownie Troop at , loves the East Meadow community and especially the area in which her family lives.

"I don't know how she has the time to do all this, but she does and she does it well," said Amy Fondon, an East Meadow resident. "I guess that is why she is a great choice for Greatest Person!"

Cardone enjoys spending her time with her kids at , and the .

"I think the best thing about East Meadow is the diversity and sense of community," Cardone said. "We have people from all over the world and we manage to get along as if we all grew up on the same block."

Members of the community appreciate the help Cardone gives in keeping them updated with the happenings of East Meadow and other areas of Nassau County.

"She does this by keeping everyone up to date in all the local events for families, how to save money (in this economy is extremely important) and she also has supported my business by using my services in my salon," said Francine Meyreles, an East Meadow resident. "She does all this and still manages to run a home, take care of her family and participate in all her kids events. That, to me, sounds like superwoman material."
