LISC K-Family Supports Alzheimer's Memory Walk

Over a dozen clubs from the family helped make the walk a success.

Continuing their long-term relationship with the Long Island Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, the K-Family of the Long Island South Central Division came out to support the organization's Memory Walk as volunteers and walkers.

K-Family members from the Bowling Green K-Kids, the Clarke Builders Club, nearly all 10 Key Clubs, the Adelphi University Circle K, the C.W. Post Circle K and several LISC Kiwanis Clubs helped set up, register walkers, check in vendors, distribute t-shirts and totes, staff water stations, plant the promise garden, serve food and clean-up the largest ever LI Memory Walk at Bethpage Restoration Village on Sept. 10.

The efforts of the Circle K-ers were coordinated by Long Island Circle K Lt. Governor Lauren Sacks. She was assisted by her Executive Assistant DPG Rickie Santer. Key Club Division 6 Executive Assistant Kim Evans coordinated the efforts of the Key Club volunteers as Key Club Lt. Governor Becky Hopkins was in Albany attending the New York District Board meeting.

The LISC K-Family had already raised over $1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association by the time of the walk's start. (The Bowling Green K-Kids were the highest-earning club). Additional sponsorship donations continue to be received online.

This year's walk had an Oktoberfest theme, which meant fun German music and great German food for all (including the ability to make your own Belgian waffle cones). New to this year’s walk was a promise garden of purple and yellow flower pinwheels inscribed with messages of remembrance and prayers for the discovery of a cure.

LISC Kiwanis Alzheimer’s Chair Mauro Cassano was proud of his volunteers' dedication.

“I cannot imagine how this walk would happen without the continued support of our Key Clubbers and Circle K-ers,” he said.
