Excellent Service Spotlighted at KPTC Meeting

Money was raised for various causes in the local area.

The KPTC Service Leadership Committee’s service and fundraising activities were highlighted by several presentations made by committee members and officers of K-family clubs at the KPTC Annual Meeting held on Jan. 4 at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Manhasset.

Levittown Kiwanis president and founder of the Joey Foundation Ann Torcivia began the evening by presenting an animatronic “Sparky” the fire dog costume to the KPTC Service Leadership Committee to use in their safe kids workshops on fire safety. Appearing as “Sparky,” Circle K Chair DIPG Rickie Santer greeted the attendees, thanked Torcivia and the Joey Foundation for their generosity.

Following a quick costume change, Santer, Lauren Sacks and Christina Principato demonstrated a lesson on bicycle safety and shared the teaching tools that the Joey Foundation had donated to the KPTC Service Leadership Committee over the past year.

In addition to the “Sparky” costume, this includes a tele-tutor 911 call simulator, miniature traffic signs, child-sized ambulance and a police car costumes used in role playing activities and Joey an interactive animatronic bicycle riding robot that teaches helmet safety.

Santer invited Kiwanis clubs to set up safe kids workshops in schools, libraries, or health/wellness fairs in their communities and pledged that the KPTC Service Leadership Committee member would run free safe kids workshops wherever they were invited.

Later in the evening’s program, Rich Santer reported on the fundraising activities of SLPs to support KPTC and introduced Devon Rafanelli and Antonia Iannucci, who explained their club’s annual “K”aroling for KPTC event and donated $464 to KPTC through the KPTC Service Leadership Fellowship Program.

Next, Santer introduced Key Club President Gina Principato and Kim Evans who reported on their club’s Halloween Carnival for KPTC. Principato presented a check to KPTC for $1,000 and donated the trauma kit her club received to Tom DeJulio, asking that he give it to any community in the Kiwanis World that he saw a need for it.

Near the end of the program, Rickie Santer announced upcoming activities for the KPTC Service Leadership Committee including a Safe Kids training at Bayside High School on Jan. 14 and a Walk for KPTC at LIU-Post on Feb. 11 from 6-9 p.m. He also invited Kiwanians to attend these events.
