EM Attorneys Recognized for Pro Bono Work

Ross Schiller and Edward Rosenthal among the first recipients of the Nassau County Bar Association's "Access to Justice Champion Award."

Two East Meadow attorneys have been recognized for their pro bono legal assistance to Nassau's neediest residents.

Ross Schiller, of Ross L. Schiller and Associates, and Edward Rosenthal, of Rosenthal Curry & Kranz, were among the first recipients of the Nassau County Bar Association's "Access to Justice Champion Award," a new designation that honors attorneys who go "above and beyond."

More than 100 attorneys qualified for the award, and all together have donated more than 5,000 hours of service or, at $100 an hour, more than $500,000 in free legal assistance to those who cannot afford it in Nassau County, according to the Nassau County Bar Association.

Schiller, who serves on the executive board of the East Meadow Jewish Center Men's Club, has experience in the areas of collections, bankruptcy, real estate, matrimonial law, and loan modifications and loss mitigation as well as litigation. He has also provided legal counsel in a wide variety of structured finance and securitization transactions. Schiller also offered assistance during the bar association's Sandy recovery clinics. Ross L. Schiller & Associates P.C. is located at 1600 Front Street, Suite 8, in East Meadow.

Rosenthal, who was born in East Meadow, was admitted to the New York State Bar in 1987 and the Eastern and Southern District of New York in 1988. A former president of the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce, Rosenthal has attended or supervised more than 3,500 mortgage closings and has settled hundreds of estates. Rosenthal Curry & Kranz, LLP is located at 1600 Front Street in East Meadow.

"This is a win-win because these attorneys are deserving of public attention to their good deeds, and at the same time, we are encouraging more attorneys to provide pro bono assistance," NCBA president Peter Mancuso said.

"In addition, for the first time we are able to put a value on the pro bono work performed by attorneys in Nassau County. Congratulations to all these attorneys and all attorneys who give back to the community, providing important legal assistance to disadvantaged residents."

Martha Krisel, chair of the NCBA Access to Justice Committee, added, "Being named an Access to Justice Champion is a terrific way to show our appreciation for the work of these attorneys, who quietly provide important legal services and who don't look for thanks."
