East Meadow Man Honored at Golf Outing

East Meadow resident Stephen McDermott has done a lot to help Island Harvest.

Island Harvest, Long Island's largest hunger relief organization held their 15th annual Golf Classic on Thursday at the Creek Club in Locust Valley, and honoring an East Meadow resident was on the menu.

Stephen McDermott, a Long Island financier, helped to increase the organization's production through his sound business acumen. He was instrumental in locating and securing 24,000 square feet of warehouse space for food storage, has served on several committees and spoke at the Long Island 2010 Hunger Summit at Adelphi University.

"He has helped our organization in so many ways this year," Island Harvest CEO Randi Shubin Dresner, also an East Meadow resident, said. "His dedication helped us secure a warehouse to help feed 300,000 hungry Long Islanders."

McDermott says he's happy to lend a helping hand.

"I'm excited about bridging the gap between the business community and Island Harvest," McDermott said. "With increased production and camaraderie, we're helping them get a return on their investment."

As far as his golf game goes, McDermott is a 20-year veteran who enjoys hitting the links whenever he can.

"I'm glad to be out here playing today at a great course for this wonderful event," he said. "We are all here for a good cause and for some healthy competition."
