East Meadow Kiwanis to Honor Harlie Treanor

The former Bowling Green K-Kid died in a boat accident on July 4 in Oyster Bay.

The East Meadow Kiwanis Club plans to remember Harlie Treanor, the former East Meadow resident that died on July 4 when the boat she was on capsized in Oyster Bay.

The Kiwanis club will honor Treanor, a former K-Kid, as a part of K-Kids night, which will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday at in East Meadow. K-Kids accomplishments will be spotlighted at the meeting as well.

Harlie, 11 and two other children died when a boat they were riding in capsized and sank after watching a Fourth of July fireworks show in Oyster Bay. Another 24 people on the boat were thrown into the water but were rescued. The children had been inside the cabin when the 34-foot Silverton boat heeled over.

“Harlie was one of those kids who always had a smile,” K-Kids Adviser Rich Santer, who was also her fifth-grade teacher, told the East Meadow Herald. "Elementary students often have only a few close friends, but she was able to cross the invisible lines that divide students."

From the East Meadow Herald:

Harlie played softball in the Central Nassau Athletic Association, and her improved batting skills helped her team reach the championship game on June 16, said Joe Aloi, her coach and the association president.

Aloi said that teams will wear Trenor's initials on their jerseys next season, and a new award will be established in her honor.

Hi Karen, Thanks for asking about the position(s) at GCA. There are currently a couple of positionsRead More that need filled. The higher, more difficult positions to fill would include Latin 2, AP European History, and the Omnibus - a conglomerate of classes characteristic of classical education. Because we are a Christian school, each of our teachers is required to articulate the Christian gospel through all of their subject areas and to do so from a Scripturally literate point of view. As far as the salary is concerned, that becomes an issue between the candidate and the board and is not handled directly by myself. Please let me know of any more specific questions that you may have if you are still interested. Also, please visit us on Facebook as well as at our main website at gcali.com. Thanks again.
