East Meadow Kiwanis Holds Thanksgiving Food Drive

Members of the community donated items for those in need.

Legis. Norma L. Gonsalves, R–East Meadow, recently joined the Kiwanis Club of East Meadow Holiday Food Drive held at

East Meadow Kiwanis will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year and continues to carry out its mission of providing for those in need. 

“It is heartwarming to see the generosity of our residents offering to help those in need," Gonsalves said. "It makes me extremely proud to see our young people participate and understand the importance and impact of all of their good deeds not just at the holidays but every day. They truly epitomize the goals of Kiwanis International, a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.”

East Meadow Kiwanis conducted four food drives for the Thanksgiving holiday season which will serve the needs of more than 100 families. Shoppers donated canned goods, potatoes, stuffing and other food staples. East Meadow Kiwanis will purchase turkeys, hams and chickens and additional donations are also expected. 

East Meadow Kiwanis will conduct another food drive for the Hanukkah/Christmas Holiday season at Waldbaums on Dec. 10 and Dec. 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Thanksgiving food baskets will be distributed the weekend before Thanksgiving. Members of K-Kids, Key Club and Girl Scouts assisted in the collections and assembling of the baskets.
