Bowling Green K-Kids Celebrate LI Egg Scramble

Kids gathered for the event at Veterans Memorial Park.

The K-Kids enjoyed a picture perfect spring day searching East Meadow's for eggs and scrambling to get them into the bucket of their favorite Kiwanis Charity at Long Island Circle K Lt. Governor Lauren Sacks’ K-Family Egg Scramble for Charity.

For the $5 admission, the Bowling Green K-Kids along with builders clubbers, key clubbers, circle Kers and kiwanians, had the opportunity to scour the park searching for colored plastic eggs that they would place in buckets for the NYD Kiwanis Foundation, Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease Foundation or the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center (KPTC) Foundation.

At the end of two rounds, the charity whose bucket had the most eggs would receive all the money raised at the event.  In addition to the many colored eggs, yellow and gold eggs sponsored by local businesses, family members and Kiwanis VIPs included prizes for the egg’s locator.  Prizes included gift cards to local restaurants, toys, jewelry and even a color computer printer.

Between the two rounds of scramble, the K-Kids and other attendees engaged in several egg-citing activities.  One involved a relay race run while trying to keep an egg on a spoon without using your hands.  Another involved creating an egg-capsule to protect an egg being dropped from over 10 feet. Teams of circle Kers, key clubbers and builders clubbers worked side by side with K-Kids to design the capsules.  Successful team members each received an extra egg to place in the bucket of their charity of choice.

The event raised $1,100 which was won by the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center.  KPTC received 450 eggs in its basket followed by the Kiwanis Pediatric Lyme Disease and the NYD Kiwanis Foundation.  KPTC Foundation Board President Joe Corace (whose presence at the event may have influenced the final results) was thrilled by the SLP members’ enthusiasm.  DPG Joe thanked LTG Lauren Sacks and her EA Rickie Santer for their efforts in planning the event and congratulated them on the event’s financial success.
