A Taste of Home Donates Cakes to Vow Renewal Ceremony for Veterans

The Bellmore-based bakery provided wedding cakes for vets and their spouses who renewed their vows this Valentine's Day.

As a sweet gift for Valentine's Day, A Taste of Home Bakery, which is very active in the East Meadow community, donated cakes to a vow renewal ceremony for Town of Hempstead veterans on Tuesday.

The Bellmore-based eatery gave small two-tier cakes to 10 couples, made up of vets from World War II, Vietnam, Korea and Iraq, who renewed their vows at Farmingdale's American Airpower Museum. The ceremony was part of Supervisor Kate Murray's "GI Love Stories" event.

"We are delighted to be part of such a special day," Monica Tarantino, A Taste of Home Bakery owner said. "We are happy to provide special cakes for this very special occasion."

Each couple walked up the aisle as Murray read their wartime love story. After all vows were renewed, there was a champagne toast and a large sheet cake, provided by A Taste of Home Bakery, was cut.

"We think that making the cakes is a wonderful way to recognize and support the people who have served our country," Tatantino said.
