Suffolk Basketball Standings – Jan. 17

Northport, Whitman among the Suffolk boys and girls basketball teams battling for league supremacy.

Nine Suffolk boys and girls basketball teams have just one loss, creating separation with an eye toward the playoffs. But there's plenty of room for movement.

Long Island Lutheran is the second-ranked squad in the New York State Sportswriters Class AA boys basketball rankings. CI, at No. 13, is Suffolk's best.

Sachem East is fifth in the latest state Class AA girls basketball rankings while Northport is 20th and Whitman 30th.

Here is a look at the latest Suffolk basketball standings (through Wednesday):

For Northport Patch, with all due respect to the very fine Whitman Girls team, both the Glenn Girls and Harborfields Girls basketball teams have better records than Whitman Girls, and deserved the mention along with the Northport Girls.
