Jets Fall to MacArthur in Nassau County Championship

Coach Stewart Fritz said the players should be proud of what they accomplished.

It was an offensive onslaught for the MacArthur Generals on Saturday, as they were able to defeat the East Meadow Jets 13-2 to capture the AA Nassau County Championship at the Mitchel Athletic Complex.

Kristen Brown got the ball for the Generals, and once again, she was solid. She struck out 10 Jets in her seven innings, and she only allowed two runs on five hits throughout the game.

"This is unbelievable," Brown said. "There's just no better feeling than this."

The Generals got on the board quickly, as after five batters, the score was 3-0. Kristen Arbiter launched an RBI single to get things going, and then Briana Lombardi, who made a diving catch in the top half of the first to kill an East Meadow threat, smashed a two-run double of her own.

"It was huge for us to get out in front," MacArthur Coach Bob Fehrenbach said. "The girls had a great approach at the plate."

MacArthur increased its lead to 5-0 in the second inning, as Jenna Cozza singled in Kristen Kelley, and Kristen Arbiter added her second RBI hit in as many addings.

The Jets made some noise in the top of the third, as they mounted a two-out rally. Jenna Dragoon, Kerri Shapiro and Madison West all singled to plate two runs for East Meadow, but that was all the scoring the Jets would do on the afternoon.

"We are very proud of what the girls did this season," East Meadow Coach Stewart Fritz said. "MacArthur is a talented team, and they played very well today."

The Generals put the game on ice in the fourth inning, as five more runs came across to score to increase the lead to 10-2. Cozza, Kristin Daly and Emily Lyons tallied RBI hits in the frame. MacArthur added two more in the home sixth, as Kristen Brown doubled to score a pair, leading to the 13-2 final score.

"It's definitely a sense of redemption for us," Cozza said. "East Meadow eliminated us the past two years, so it feels good to beat them."

The Generals will now get a lengthy rest as they prepare for their Long Island Championship game on June 5 at the Mitchel Athletic Complex. Their opponent and the time of the game has not been announced.
