Groundbreaking Set for Ice Rinks at Eisenhower

Ferraro Brothers Ice Center - dubbed Twin Rinks - will boast an 85,000-sq. ft. facility at Eisenhower Park.

Twins and former New York Ranger hockey players, the Ferraro brothers, are bringing the ice to East Meadow in the form of a state-of-the-art sports and recreation center.

Located in the center of Eisenhower Park, "the Twin Rinks will be an 85,000 square foot world-class facility with two NHL regulation-sized rinks and one outdoor recreational hockey rink that will host skating lessons, youth player development programs, tournaments and hockey teams for all ages and skill levels," according to the New York Post.

A turf field, basketball court, a handball wall and rollerblading/stroller path are also part of the project, which is to be completed in four stages.

While the center will be located in a county park, when first mentioned in July 2012, Mangano spokesman Brian Nevin said, "the county would spend no money on this project, but enter into a revenue-sharing agreement with the operators to generate additional revenue to help the county hold the line on property taxes."

A groundbreaking is set for later this week.

Chris and Peter Ferraro became the second set of identical twins to play on the same NHL team during the 1995-96 NHL season. The Ferraro brothers grew up in Port Jefferson.

No this has nothing to do with the islanders and is in no way being funded by them. I hope they leave and Garth snow jumps off a bridge.

If you are against this, you don't know all the facts. You people don't realize that the "several other rinks in the area"(dumb asshole Paul) are all run down and the owners are only in it for the money. The guys who own FBIC are genuinely nice guys who have children of their own who have only decent hockey for Long Island kids in mind. The Rinx is run by money hungry losers, superior needs to be knocked down and rebuilt, IceWorks is garbage and is run by the Islanders GM Garth Snow which is embarrassing. I could go on and on. Why wouldn't anyone want a brand new state of the art ice hockey facility run by two guys who played in the pros and live and love hockey? They have teamed up with Ed Mangano who also genuinely supports their cause. The Ferraros' along side of the Friedman's will build it and it will blow everyone's minds. You'll all see. I hope everyone gets a chance to enjoy it, even you people who are so strongly against it. But I do strongly suggest you get a new hobby(maybe hockey). #YEAHHOCKEY #SUCKITHATERS
