"Special Places at Muttontown" Hike

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano announces that a guided hike, "Special Places at Muttontown," will be hosted by the Muttontown Preserve on Jan. 9 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The preserve is located on Muttontown Lane, south of 25A, in East Norwich. Comprising 550 acres of fields, woodlands, ponds and estate grounds, Muttontown is Nassau County's largest nature preserve and quite a beautiful setting.

The walk, which will cover three miles over somewhat rough terrain, covers several areas of the preserve. These include the "Succession field Trail," the "Tall Conifers" and "Glacial Kame." "Hidden Pond," a kettle pond in the preserve, is an area where participants can do some bird-watching.

The fee for the hike is $5. Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required. Call 516-571-8500 weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The walk will begin at the Bill Paterson Nature Center on the preserve.
