Free Batting Clinic

Nassau County will be sponsoring two free clinics at the Eisenhower Park batting cages on May 12 and May 17 between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., County Executive Edward Mangano recently announced.

Michael Caulfield, who is an assistant coach at New York Institute of Technology, will be running the clinic. Caulfield also runs the Butch Caulfield Hitting Academy in Bethpage and is the hitting coordinator at the New York Baseball Academy.

“I am happy to provide these free clinics for our youngsters and their families,” said Mangano in a recent press release from Nassau County. “Michael Caulfield is an outstanding instructor, and we are thrilled to be working with him on this and other baseball initiatives for the benefit of the public.”

During the winter, as part of a parks improvement initiative, the batting cages received new pitching machines, had new netting installed and got a new pulley system for the netting. The cages include nine stalls with three speeds for both baseball and softball. The system is self-feeding for batters don’t have to feed the balls into the machine.

Admission to the cages is $3 for 25 pitches for Nassau County residents and $5 for non-residents. They are open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. – though hours are extended during the summer.
