East Meadow Wrestlers Dominate Oceanside

The Jets proved a point with their win on Friday

The wrestling team defeated Oceanside on the road on Friday afternoon by a score of 75-9.

The Jets won all but two matches against the Sailors Friday, six of which came by way of a pin or technical fall. The team has so far looked in stellar shape to contend for a Conference 1B title along with the likes of Baldwin.

Oceanside started off strong with a pin from Rocco Candella over Brandon Cohen at 96 pounds. However, the match would quickly turn over to East Meadow’s favor with consecutive pins Frankie Clarke at 103 pounds and Adam Smith at 112 pounds to give the Jets a 12-6 lead.

Matt Power followed up the two wins with a major decision over Zach Strandberg at 119 pounds, 10-0, to extend the lead to 16-6. After a forfeit by Oceanside at 125 pounds, Matt Tynan pinned Matt Accomando in the first period at 130 pounds.

The pin by Tynan started an impressive stretch of wins by the East Meadow middleweights, starting with a technical fall win by Mike Monailis at 135 pounds and first period pins by both Mike Tropiano and Nolan Travis at 140 and 145 pounds, respectively.

After another forfeit by Oceanside at 152 pounds, the Sailors picked up their second win with an 8-4 decision by Nick Cascio over Bobby Sendkewitz at 160 pounds. The Oceanside win would be the final match as the rest were forfeited, giving East Meadow another 24 team points to win 75-9.

East Meadow now stands at 3-0 in their conference and will host a tough Baldwin team next Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. followed by going on the road to take on Farmingdale on Friday at 5:30.

The second half of the season figures to be a challenge for a very talented East Meadow team having the aforementioned league opponents along with non-league opponents in Uniondale and Massapequa, the top two teams in Conference 1A.
