East Meadow Softball Falls in State Title Game

After winning the semifinal earlier in the day, the magical run ended for the Jets.

The East Meadow girls softball team lost 5-0 Saturday to Cicero-North Syracuse to put an end to their winning run.

After beating Union-Endicott 8-0 in the semifinal earlier in the day, the Jets lost for just the second time since May 6. Opposing pitcher Sydney O’Hara struck out the side in the top of the first and then hit a three-run homer in the bottom half to give herself the lead.

She later homered in her final at-bat as a North Star to give the team a 5-0 advantage, which would be the end result.

It wasn't a failure for the Jets, who had felt like local celebrities before leaving on their quest for a State Title.

"Leaving the school to come here, some of the classes came out and clapped for us the whole way down the hallway," Taylor Conti told Newsday. "The school band played for us outside. It was like we were celebrities."

"We are all in tears right now," Kerri Shapiro, who pitched two games on Saturday, said, "but we'll eventually realize that nobody has ever done this at East Meadow. We made history."
