East Meadow Man Receives Prestigious Soccer Award

Gabriel Marques was honored by the Long Island Soccer League for his achievements.

Gabriel Marques of East Meadow recently received the Long Island Soccer Football League's 'President's Award" for his off-the-field contributions to the game of soccer.

“I was deeply honored to receive this award," Marques said.

Marques has worked with local government officials to increase the awareness of adult amateur soccer on Long Island and is one of the co-founders of the Annual Nassau County Executive Cup.

He has also been heavily involved in the Mineola Portuguese Soccer Club  and was part of the 2011 team that brought the amateur state title back to Long Island after more than a decade.

“Gabriel has a unique passion and vision for the soccer community here on Long Island," Gus Xikis, president of the Long Island Soccer League said.  "We are glad to honor him."
