East Meadow Field Hockey Holds Off Baldwin 1-0

The Lady Jets win an emotional game at home.

The last time the East Meadow (5-7) Lady Jets faced off against Baldwin (6-5-1) was last year when they lost a nail biter in double overtime. This game was also a nail biter to the very end as East Meadow was able to squeak past Baldwin with a 1-0 victory on Friday.

East Meadow's only goal came from Jennifer Simberlund and was  assisted by Vanessa DePasquale, who made a strong play off the corner.

East Meadow Coach Courtney Castle was extremely happy with her team's performance. The game went down to the last couple seconds as Baldwin forced play back into the East Meadow zone for the last minute or so.

"This was a big win for us," Castle said. "I still cant believe it. I'm so proud of my girls."

Strong play was shown by everyone on the field, especially bt goaltender Ariana Ovadia, who recorded her fifth shutout of the year. Ovadia made key saves throughout the game, stopping all seven shots that met her at her net.

Although the score read only 1-0 at games end, their were plenty of scoring opportunities, especially one in the first half when a hard shot to the net was disallowed because it was taken outside the circle and no one was able to get a stick on it before entering Baldwin's net.

The Lady Jets defensive attack stifled Baldwin throughout the game as well.

"We played great defense," Castle said. "Even though we played a little flustered at times, we tightened up and calmed down".

East Meadow came away with the heated emotional win over Baldwin, which will help them on their hunt for the playoff's.
