McVey Student Wins Senator Hannon's Law Contest

Brianna Bourne was recently awarded first place in Senator Kemp Hannon's 2013 "There Ought To Be A Law" Competition.

Brianna Bourne, a student at McVey Elementary School, was recently awarded first place in Senator Kemp Hannon’s 2013 “There Ought To Be A Law” Competition.

The contest honors ideas for new laws by local fifth and sixth grade students from schools in Hannon’s senate district.

Bourne proposed that back seat passengers who don't wear their seat belts should be punished.

“It should be illegal for back seat passengers, no matter what age, height or weight, to ride without a seat belt," she said. "People in the back seat can go flying out the windows in an accident as well as a front seat passenger.”
