Participants of Parkway Elementary School's <a href="http://www.nyspta.org/YourPTA/YourPTA_PARP.cfm" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">2013 Parents As Reading Partners (PARP) Program</a> were recently honored by the Town of Hempstead. Town Supervisor Kate Murray presented an official citation to students for their dedication to reading. PARP is a program that encourages parents to read with their children for at least 15 minutes daily, stressing the fact that reading can be fun as well as informative.

Michael G. Zapson has become Chairman of the Long Island Chapter of the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV). NYLCV is the only statewide environmental organization in New York that advocates for clean water, clean air, renewable energy, and open space through political action.
 Zapson, a partner at the law office of Certilman Balin Adler &amp; Hyman, LLP, is a former Long Beach City Councilman for 10 years and Nassau County Legislator. Zapson is known for his environmental accomplishments including the closing of the incinerator in Long Beach when he was City Council President.
 The LCV is a non-partisan, pragmatic, and effective organization that gets involved in elections where it can make a difference. Recently the LCV Victory Fund invested $350,000 in ground support for Tom Suozzi&rsquo;s Special Election win in New York&rsquo;s Third Congressional District.
 Zapson&rsquo;s work as an environmental advocate includes cleaning the Bays in Nassau County. He was an early advocate for the Bay Park Conveyance Project which will improve water quality and storm resiliency by ending the flow of treated sewer effluent into Reynolds Channel. As early as 2013, Zapson and the LVC were working to stop the flow of sewer effluent into the bay.
