East Meadow Leader Selected as Wantagh's Interim Superintendent

The Wantagh Board of Education has tapped a veteran educational leader to serve as the district’s interim superintendent starting Sept. 26.

Dr. Richard Marsh, an East Meadow resident who has served more than 40 years in public education, will fill in for departing Wantagh Superintendent Dr. Lydia Begley, who submitted her resignation last month. Begley is l to become Nassau BOCES’s new associate superintendent for educational services after two years as Wantagh superintendent and spending the previous decade as the district's curriculum chief. 

Dr. Marsh arrives in Wantagh after most recently serving as superintendent in the Bethpage School District. The longtime schools leader holds bachelor's and master's degrees from New York University and professional diplomas from both St. John's and Hofstra. He also earned a doctorate from Hofstra and of his five degrees, four are in the specialty areas of educational supervision, administration and policy.

“Dr. Marsh strongly believes that all students should have equal and instructionally-rich opportunities for success,” said Wantagh Board of Education president William Russack. “He is recognized as an extremely creative educational leader who understands the importance of effectively sharing student achievement with parents and the community.”

Dr. Marsh has recently worked as an adjunct professor at Hofstra, Long Island University's C.W. Post campus and Adelphi University teaching the next generation of educational leaders.

“The Board of Education is confident that Dr. Marsh possesses the experience and professionalism to lead the Wantagh School District and its students to the next level of success,” said Russack. “The members of the Board of Education look forward to working with Dr. Marsh while they continue their search for a permanent Superintendent of Schools.”
