East Meadow BOE Adopts 2013-14 School Budget

The budget will be a 1.83 percent increase over the current year.

The East Meadow Board of Education announced at a Thursday meeting that the proposed 2013-14 budget was adopted.

The proposed budget is $188,239,972, a 1.83 percent increase over the 2012-13 budget. The amount of money collected from taxpayers would be a 2.49 increase of $131 million.

School board officials said that no school programs will be cut in the proposed budget.

"This budget represents one of the smallest budget increases in the district's history," Superintendent Louis DeAngelo said. "We worked hard to put together a budget plan that is fair to all of our students."

The school district will hold a formal budget presentation at the Leon J. Campo Center on May 7 at 7 p.m.

The school board election and the budget vote will take place on May 21. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Barnum Woods Elementary School, Bowling Green Elementary School, McVey Elementary School, Meadowbrook Elementary School and Parkway Elementary School.
