Clarke Student Advances to Spelling Bee Regional Competition

Joel Matthew defeated 27 contestants during Clarke's 2014 bee, making him the regional representative at the Feb. 9 Scripps Spelling Bee competition.

Joel Matthew, a student at W.T. Clarke Middle School, captured first place in the school's 2014 spelling bee. He now advances to the regional competition of the Scripps Spelling Bee at Hofstra University next month, according to the East Meadow School District.

Joel defeated 27 contestants during the school's competition, making him the regional representative at the Feb. 9 competition, a district press release said.
