Bowling Green K-Kids Bestowed as Distinguished Club

Plenty of accolades for many East Meadow students.

The K-Kids have been named a distinguished club, and they were only one of only five clubs in New York State to receive this distinction.

Bowling Green K-Kids depicting the club’s 41 service projects and fundraisers on 109 pages was selected as the winner of the K-Kids Scrapbook contest at the state-level.

The Bowling Green K-Kids also won the single service award at the state-level. This award designates the best community service project done by a K-Kids Club in New York State during the 2011-12 service year.

Despite stiff competition and the largest number of entries New York State has had to date, the good news and accolades for Bowling Green did not stop there. Bowling Green K-Kids officers and members continued to win every K-Kids individual contest for the fourth consecutive year.

The Bowling Green K-Kids’ coloring book page Art contest entries were drawn by K-Kids Secretary Kira Gruber (ELIMINATE project theme) and Mackenzie Bauman (K-Kids project theme) were both selected as the New York District winners.  Bowling Green K-Kids President Devon Rafanelli won second place in the ELIMINATE Project Art contest. Kira and Mackenzie’s entries will move on to compete against the winners of other states, regions and countries at the international level.

“This has been an amazing year for our club,” Rich Santer said. “I could not ask for more dedicated members. These kids have taken our club’s community service to new heights. We have completed service projects in our local community, throughout New York State, across the country and around the world including the Kingdom of Jordan and the island of Jamaica.”
