Introducing Adelphi's First Ever A Cappella Group

The 16-member group, Paws & Rewind, is gearing up for upcoming performances.

Paws & Rewind, Adelphi University’s first ever a cappella group, is gearing up for upcoming performances at the beginning of next semester.

Previously titled Looking For Treble, the group has gone through amateur management and members who were not committed. They got together last spring and practiced some songs, but never had the right musical structure or long-term dedication.

In September, 40 students auditioned in the Performing Arts Center for a spot but only 16 members were accepted.

Seniors Stephanie McKenna and Alyssa Kurtzberg and freshman Rohit Singla, all of whom also serve as the board of directors, founded the group.

“It’s incredible to have this group on campus! This is something that we have been trying to do for years and we’re so happy that it’s finally happening," Kurtzberg said. "We had a goal and a dream and we never gave up or settled. It’s because of that that we made it this far!”

During private practices, the group has mastered the Star-Spangled Banner with a four-part harmony, holiday songs like "Angels We Have Heard on High," "Carol of the Bells" and the pop song "Roar" by Katy Perry.

Supporters of the group can expect all types of genres from the a cappella singers, who do not use any instrumental accompaniment.

Paws & Rewinds meets on Thursdays at 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Performing Arts Center. For more information or how to audition next spring, contact Rohit Singla at pawsnrewind@gmail.com or 404-2459.
