Most ignored stop sign Walter ST and Surrey Drive

My husband and I among other neighbors have either had to stop short while driving or jump out of the way to not be hit by the drivers who come off Merrick Avenue onto Walter St and run the stop sign on the corner of Surrey.  Without looking they turn right or left and almost hit people trying to exit through Walter or almost clip someone walking.  It's amazing 29 years I've lived here and 95% of the time, people run the sign - WHERE R THE POLICE?
One of the problems is no one gets a ticket, therefore, why stop>
