Security Tightens Ahead of Presidential Debate

Hofstra University was open for business Monday but security was tight one day before the second presidential debate. Tuesday will be a different story as a sitting president and his challenger – as well as two national campaigns and a large media contingent – will descend upon the Hempstead campus.

The entire northern campus will be off-limits to anyone without media credentials or student ID for the dormitories. Concrete barriers were placed around much of the campus as well as many of the auxiliary entranceways to the campus.

Students were also ordered to move their cars away from many of the parking lots which have been designated for media trucks and vans. Classes have also been cancelled for Tuesday.

There are also massive changes to roadways and mass transit.

The public will be allowed on the south campus to watch the debate between President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney at the Monroe Center. A separate viewing location is in the Hofstra Playhouse, but is only open to AARP members who had preregistered.

The good news is that all this is temporary and once the campaigns move on Tuesday night, the university anticipates that sometime Wednesday morning life will be back to normal.

youre right, i decided to voice my opinion on my own accord (amazing that people can do such a thing nowadays, especially on the internet!) i felt compelled from the ridiculous nonsense you seem so confident and sure about. amazing how you try to seem so righteous and intelligent with big words like diatribe, yet you seem to think my rhetoric had something to do with a bird (fowl. its foul, you ignorant bafoon!) as for the employment situation, i certainly did not make any indication that it was "so great", so clearly you also cannot fully comprehend the rhetoric i put a good amount of effort into writing.... what a shame. I thought you were at least thoughtful and diligent with your convictions (but i guess that would explain why you probably get most of your information on such matters from places like fox news, and dont have the intelligence necessary to go out and look it up yourself) seriously, i dont want to have you get upset over losing this argument, especially to a wise young american, but please take the time to investigate things fully. may i suggest reading a great piece about beliefs by a mr. clifford. it will help you understand what it SHOULD take to believe something. on that note, my final adieu.

and your obama would like nothing more than to shut down opposing views. We on the other hand welcome your views no matter how uninformed they are.
