McCarthy Nominates Christopher Whitenack to Military Service Academy

The EMHS student will head to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point.

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-Mineola, has announced her office’s appointees to various U.S. military service academies, like the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point in Nassau County and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Ten teen nominees from Rep. McCarthy’s district, including one from East Meadow, were appointed after a rigorous application and interview process looking at various factors like academic performance and extra-curricular activities.

“These young men and women, along with our current forces serving around the globe, are our next Greatest Generation – smart, patriotic, brave, and selfless,” Rep. McCarthy said.  “Their examples bring confidence that our nation is in good hands for the future.”

Rep. McCarthy’s nominees who have been successfully appointed this year, including their hometowns and current schools, are:

United States Military Academy at West Point

  • James Corino (West Hempstead; Valley Forge Military College)
  • Christopher Hughes (Rockville Centre; Military Academy Preparatory School)

United States Naval Academy at Annapolis

  • Ryan James Spadaford (Rockville Centre; South Side High School)
  • Jason Steiner (West Hempstead, West Hempstead High School)

United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs

  • Maximilian Umland (Garden City; Regis High School)

United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point

  • John Atkinson (Garden City; Chaminade High School)
  • Travis Feinberg (Oceanside; Oceanside High School)
  • Stephen McGuire (East Rockaway; Chaminade High School)
  • Christopher Whitenack (East Meadow; )

Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, R.I.

Christian Camarillo (South Hempstead; South Side High School)
