The LIRR is a state authority but Denenberg said he likes to organize meeting that address issues faced by train commuters in his 19th district, which includes Bellmore, North Bellmore, Merrick and parts of Freeport, North Merrick and Wantagh.

At a forum held last year with LIRR personnel at the Wantagh Public Library, some of the issues raised included problems with escalators, lack of parking and general maintenance concerns.
