Hunger Action Month in Nassau County

About 300,000 Long Islanders, including 110,000 children, are at risk of going hungry each day.

Nassau County, Island Harvest, local food pantries and hunger relief advocates are scheduled to converge on Eisenhower Park on Tuesday to launch Hunger Action Month.

The campaign is designed to bring awareness to hunger on Long Island.

According to the county executive's office, about 300,000 Long Islanders, including 110,000 children, face the risk of going hungry each day.

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and Island Harvest President and Chief Executive Randi Shubin Dresner will be at the event.

In addition to distributing more than 11 million pounds of food to non-profit organizations across Long Island, Island Harvest coordinates various advocacy programs, including a mobile food pantry.
