Gonsalves Calls to Expand Federal Hurricane Sandy Relief Programs For Businesses

The federal and disaster relief will fund programs and grant opportunities to assist small business owners.

Nassau County Presiding Officer Norma Gonsalves and the Nassau County Legislature recently called upon Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand to expand federal disaster relief funding programs and grant opportunities to help small businesses recover financial losses due to Hurricane Sandy.

“There are many small business owners in Nassau County who were devastated by Superstorm Sandy and expanding the relief programs and offering grant opportunities to cover lost revenue would be a major step in getting those businesses and our economy back on track,”  Gonsalves said.

The Nassau County and Suffolk County Legislatures made the request to help rebuild Long Island. The requested federal aid would consist of direct funding and grant programs to help business owners who may have suffered property damage or lost inventory and sales opportunities due to Hurricane Sandy and power outages.

“I am very pleased we were able to put politics aside and work in a bipartisan fashion to help our residents,” Gonsalves said.
