Town of Hempstead STOP Program

The Town of Hempstead will hold its S.T.O.P. event on March 24 at Eisenhower Park. The program will run in Parking Field 3 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Department of Sanitation hosts this throughout the town so that residents can have a chance to get rid of goods that they might otherwise throw away with the regular trash.

Initially established 17 years ago, S.T.O.P.'s goal is to help protect the environmental integrity and groundwater supply of the town. Before the program began, many residents threw out their pollutants in the regular garbage, which is extremely harmful to the town's ecosystem. S.T.O.P gives everyone a chance to dispose of their chemicals, toxins and other hazardous material in a safe and controlled manner.
