Shed the Meds Program

Senator Kemp Hannon, along with the Nassau County Police Department, is urging all local residents to participate in the "Shed the Meds" program to safely discard unused or expired medications.

The program will take place on Sept. 25 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Town of Hempstead Sanitation Department, which is located at 80 Cherry Valley Avenue in West Hempstead. Participants will have a chance to drive up to the drop off station and discard of their medications without even leaving their cars.

It is important to dispose of these medications properly because flushing them down the toilet or pouring them in the drain can pollute waterways and the drinking water.
