East Meadow Library Releases Proposed 2013-14 Budget

The total of the budget will increase 3.23 percent.

The East Meadow Public Library has recently released the proposed 2013-14 budget.

The total will increase by 3.23 percent which adds up to a $6,935,809 budget. The amount raised by taxes will be $6,605,559 due to a less anticipated income of $10,000 in state aid, $90,250 from the collections of fines and other income, $200,000 from the transfer of other funds and payment in lieu of taxes in a total of $30,000.

The library owns 318,460 print materials, 17,790 electronic materials, 29,553 audio visual materials with a grand total of 365,803 items. In the past year 36,444 items were added.

In the last fiscal year, the library hosted 812 programs and had improvements that included a new circulation desk.

The library will host a public budget hearing at the library on May 8 at 7:30 p.m.
