Animal Adoption Waives Fees, Toys for Tots, Free Concert

News from the Town of Hempstead.

The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter will be waiving all adoption fees from Nov. 22, 2013 to Jan. 5, 2014 during the shelter's annual "Home for the Holidays" pet adoption program. There will also be a holiday event at the shelter on Saturday, Dec. 14. For more on the Animal Shelter, click here.

Andrew Alderman of East Meadow was among 12 Long Islanders the Town of Hempstead recognized during its 17th annual "Make A Difference" awards ceremony Nov. 12. Alderman's volunteer efforts date back to elementary school when he began raising money for his mom's friend who had lupus. Click here for more.

Toys for Tots Launched at County Buildings

Nassau County has teamed up with the United States Marine Corps for the Toys for Tots Holiday Gift Drive. New, unwrapped toys will be collected through Dec. 20. For a full list of where you can donate, and for more information, click here.

Celebrating National Adoption Day

The Nassau County Department of Social Services and Nassau County Family Court, in partnership with the Long Island Children’s Museum, will participate in National Adoption Day on Monday, Nov. 18. The ceremony will take place at the Long Island Children’s Museum in Garden City beginning at 10 a.m., where the adoptions of 13 children in foster care will be finalized. Free Holiday Spectacular Concert

The Long Island Philharmonic will be performing in Nassau County’s “Holiday Spectacular” concert on Sunday, Dec. 1 at the Butler Building at Mitchel Athletic Complex in Garden City.
