The responded to a fire on Amherst Street just before 2 p.m. Monday, and the fire was quickly extinguished.
"When we first got there, there was a smoke condition near the front of the residence," Assistant Fire Chief Robert Salveson Jr. said. "We went in and the fire was quickly put out."
One woman was home when the fire started, but she did not sustain serious injuries, Salveson said.
The fire began on the first floor of the residence and extended into the upper level. Fire officials opened the roof and the windows, and the residence was ventilated. The immediate cause of the fire is unknown.
"The fire marshal is on scene," Salveson said. "Hopefully, he can determine how this all got started."
