UPDATE: West Babylon HS Student Struck by Car

A student was struck by a vehicle and seriously injured on Little East Neck Road.

Update (6:40 p.m.): Police have identified the injured student as Job Giuliani, a 17-year-old senior at West Babylon High School. Giuliani was walking eastbound across Great Neck Road when he was struck by a 2008 Honda Civic driven by Matthew Stein, a 22-year-old West Babylon resident.

Giuliani was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where he remains in critical condition with head injuries. Stein was taken to Southside Hospital where he was treated and released.

The Civic has been impounded for a safety check and the investigation is ongoing.

Original story:

A male student from West Babylon High School was struck and seriously injured by a vehicle this afternoon, according to police.

Suffolk County First Precinct detectives said a male teen from West Babylon High School was struck by a vehicle on Little East Neck Road, right outside the school grounds, and seriously injured at about 1:23 p.m.

The teen and the driver of the vehicle were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital. Police said the student was currently in critical condition; there was no word on the condition of the driver at this time.

Police said the accident does not appear to be criminal at this time.

The accident shut down much of the roadway as police and the West Babylon Fire Department tended to the accident victims. Great East Neck Road was shut down from the High School south to Arnold Avenue for a time.

This is a breaking news story – we'll have updates on the conditions of both the driver and student when we get word.
