Two Injured in Merrick Avenue Crash

None of the injuries are considered life-threatening, according to police.

Two people were injured when their vehicles collided just outside of the in East Meadow Tuesday, although neither of their injuries is life-threatening.

"We normally have more information when the people are in worse condition," police said. "In this case, none of the people have been critically hurt."

According to police, First Precinct officers responded at 1:41 p.m. after a Jeep Cherokee and Cadillac Escalade collided. Both drivers were transported to Nassau University Medical Center for observation.

According to one diner worker, who chose to remain anonymous, the Jeep Cherokee slammed into the back of the Escalade.

"I heard the brakes screech, and when I came out to look, I saw the Jeep tumbling in the air," he said. "Then it smashed into the other car."

The accident caused an increase in congestion at Bellmore Avenue and Merrick Avenue, and police helped keep traffic flowing while the vehicles were towed away.

As he pulled away, the tow truck driver who took the Escalade away told Patch that both vehicles are likely totaled.

"The Escalade is either going to need a ton of work or be totaled," he said. "The [Jeep] is done."
